Coaching works because of some simple practical reasons:
Pause – For an hour or two you are able to pause what is going on around you and in your mind.
Clearing your head – If you have huge responsibilities, are overwhelmed or stressed by all that has to be done then by clearing your head you can leave your coaching session re-energised and re-motivated.
Venting – There’s a lot in business to fear, hate and be anxious about – and excited and joyful! however most people often play their cards close to their chest so being able to pour out your anxiety, or fear, or anger, or excitement is a huge relief.
Time – Meeting with a coach forces you to take time out of whatever it is you are doing, blocking out a space in your diary to meet with your coach gives you that all important space to think.
Sounding board – People often say that the great value for them in coaching is to have a ‘sounding board’ , this is especially true for business owners who may have an issue with a business partner and for senior executives who may have an issue with the board so they can’t share it with them and they have to look confident to the next layer down.
Speaking the truth – Because of the coach/client relationship is such a unique one, when the coach is being used as a sounding board they will give feedback and that feedback is very truthful, the feedback given is always delivered tactfully and because of the uniqueness of the relationship, any feedback given is easier to hear, non judgemental, unbiassed, honest and with no hidden agenda.
The relationship between client and coach is a unique partnership, the Coach supports each client to achieve their goals by enabling a person or team to move from where they are now to where they would like to be.
Coaching is an extremely efficient and effective way to get things done and achieve what you want. You will, undoubtedly, get there quicker with than without coaching, without coaching you may never know your true potential! Through a process of questioning, reflecting and empowering, change can take place. A great coach will challenge their client into action and increase their self awareness.
The aim of a great coach is to help the client become their own behavioural change agent, leaving with them resources gained through the coaching engagement, so that they can continue to achieve once the coaching intervention has finished.
We are driven by our beliefs and those same beliefs can also prevent us from achieving our full potential. Through coaching you will break through what is holding you back or getting in the way of you reaching your personal and business goals.
Ultimately coaching is a powerful relationship built on trust that brings about excellent results both personally and professionally that automatically improves performance and in so doing increases quality of life.
