Did you know that 95% of the time it is your unconscious mind that is driving your every decision, thought & emotion? Only 5% of the time you are consciously aware of your decisions, most of the time you are on automatic pilot!
Imagine what this can mean to your life and work decisions, can you really be sure that you are making the right decision, what beliefs might your decisions be based on?
So for most of the time you are not consciously thinking about what your are doing, every day, every moment functions like breathing, walking, talking etc happen automatically, in the same way, when you are making decisions, although you may think you are thinly clearly and aware of everything influencing your decision, the chances are you aren’t as your unconscious is at work unconsciously and serving you the best way it knows how to!
You will potentially have beliefs that are unhelpful, some helpful and some neither helpful or unhelpful. The reason why so many successful people work with coaches is to ensure these beliefs are challenged and to increase their self awareness to make sure they are make the best decision possible and not one that is governed by something they are not even aware of.
In reality most people, to a large degree, base their decisions on emotions, values and beliefs whether they are consciously aware of it or not. Our unconscious mind holds memories, knowledge, experiences, beliefs, values and emotions at different levels (our body also stores memories, experiences and emotions see.pt4). Because our conscious mind can’t store everything we experience, most of what we experience goes into our unconscious.
When we need to recall certain information like a phone number or how to find our way to a friends house or to work, it is easily to hand in our unconscious but there is also a deeper level of unconscious which holds deeper beliefs and values and memories that certain situations will create an automatic response and that will also come into play when making decisions and we will not necessarily be aware of/unknown to us.that this is happening
Some of those beliefs are really helpful to you, some of them are not so helpful. A belief that stepping in front of a moving car is likely to hurt you, if not kill you is a really helpful belief to have. However you will have many unhelpful beliefs, some of them affecting who you do business with, what direction to take your business in.
What are your limiting beliefs, you are more than likely not aware of your most of your limiting beliefs and certainly not those you hold around your business. You may have a belief that your type of business has to do things a specific way because that’s just how it is in this industry or you may believe risk is a bad thing, you don’t do business with people who dress a certain way, when employing people you will hold certain beliefs about people that may result in your hiring the wrong person for your business.
The reason so many successful people have coaches is not just so they have a sounding board to talk through ideas, solutions to problems, performance etc but for reasons far more important than that, is to raise their self awareness, broaden their thinking, discover the things that make them tick and the things that don’t and most importantly to challenge long held unconscious and conscious beliefs and perceptions.
